What it is
Dermaplaning is a simple, well-established exfoliation treatment that uses a sterile blade and light feathering strokes to abrade the very surface of the skin. It removes dead epidermal cells along with the soft, fine hair on the face, leaving the skin refined and noticeably smoother. Because it uses no acids or chemicals, it suits people who can’t use peeling agents — including those who are pregnant or nursing — though every treatment begins with a consultation.
How it works
By taking off that top layer of dead skin and vellus hair, dermaplaning lets your serums and moisturisers penetrate more readily into the deeper layers. It’s often used to prepare the skin before a light chemical peel or a cleansing facial, so the active ingredients can do more.

What to expect
The treatment is comfortable and needs no recovery time, so you can return to your day straight after. Skin can feel a little more sensitive to the sun afterwards, so a daily SPF is recommended. As your skin recovers it looks more even and refined — though, as with all treatments, how much you see depends on your skin.

Common questions
Will the hair grow back thicker or darker?
No. That’s a common worry but it’s an old wives’ tale. As long as it’s superficial vellus hair, it grows back at exactly the same rate and texture as before.
Is dermaplaning safe during pregnancy?
It’s often a good choice when you’re pregnant or nursing and want a deep exfoliation but can’t use peeling agents on your skin. We’ll confirm what’s right for you at consultation.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Yes. It pairs well with one of our enzyme or light chemical peels, or with a skin-needling treatment, to lift the results further.
How will my skin look afterwards?
Most people notice a smoother, more refined, ‘glowing’ finish. Individual results vary depending on your starting skin.
